In Amish Deception I have covered many very difficult areas. There is one more area that deeply concerns me. It involves our underground drinking water system throughout the United States. My Amish culture is scattered throughout the United States. OH, PA, IN, NY, MI, WI, MN, IA, Mo, KY, TN, MD, DL and MS. The Health Departments in these states hold my Amish culture to a different standard than the modern society.
If you are a non-Amish and you wish to build a home in the country, first you have to get a permit for a septic system before you can even build your home. A licensed local contractor will have to install the septic system. A local representative from the health department will have to be present to test the soil. If your soil does not meet the health department's guidelines you will be denied the right to install a septic system or build a home on that property. If you refuse to abide by the health department's guidelines, you are then subject to severe penalties and possible jail time.
The reason the health department is so ridged when it comes to installing the septic system is to protect our underground drinking water. Because they are concerned about contamination from bacteria which comes from our human waste. Bacteria such as E. coli can cause minor symptoms such as stomach cramps, or other aches and pains or can be fatal. If you live near an Amish community and have these symptoms you should have your drinking water checked for strains of E. coli. In all fairness this could be a very serious issue.
Our local health departments across the United States will not hold my Amish culture to the same standard as the rest of the American public. If you are Amish you can simply dig an open dirt pit, put a small building over top of it, and you now have a toilet.
You can build this outside toilet in a swampy area or on a high ground. There are absolutely no restrictions. You can even build it within ten feet from your water well if you decide to do so. The biggest percentage of Amish toilets are built with dirt pits. There is absolutely nothing that will keep the raw bacteria, in the Amish human waste, from making its way to our underground drinking system. There are hundreds and thousands of these toilets throughout the United States. Should you come up with these symptoms, the United States Health Department and my Amish culture could be held liable in the Court of Law.

The Health Department also has a dual standard between the modern society and
the Amish culture when it comes to burying their deceased. When someone in the
modern society dies and is buried, they have to be buried in a steel vault in
order to protect our underground drinking water. But when someone from my Amish
culture dies we simply dig a six-foot deep hole in the ground. The outer dirt
walls are supported by one-inch boards, which we call a rough box. The deceased
is place in a homemade oak casket. With time this wood will rot. And the
deceased’s remains will deteriorate without any protection to our underground
drinking water system, while the Health Department looks the other way.
The State of Ohio Transportation Dept. is considering the possibility of building a couple special roads in Wayne and Holmes Counties of Ohio, for buggies only. This road will be basically built at taxpayer’s expense. Amish tourism in the state of Ohio creates millions of dollars of revenue, and our public officials will go to any length to protect that revenue.
The argument could be successfully made in Federal Court, if you want to cater to one special group you are in violation of 42USCS, Section 1981, of the FEDERAL CIVIL RIGHTS ACT.
Title 42USCS, section 1981 EQUAL RIGHTS UNDER THE LAW.
All persons within the jurisdiction of the United States shall have the same right in every State and territory to make and enforce contracts, to sue, be parties, give evidence, and to the full and equal benefit of all laws and proceedings foe the security of persons and property as is enjoyed by white citizens, and shall be subject to like punishment, pains, penalties, taxes, licenses, and exactions of every kind, and to no other. R.S. 1977.
I understand how some one could be so fascinated by our culture as it appears to be frozen in time. But one should be professional enough to look beyond your fascination, and at least accept the possibility that what I have covered in Amish Deception is correct.
What is a cult and what is a religion? David Coresh from Waco, TX also believed he was a servant from God. He believed that he shouldn't be held accountable for his actions in the local legal system. The way he controlled his people was very ridged. David further believed that having sex with minors was acceptable.
Cevilla Hershberger, my wife's oldest sister cut her hair six month ago and she is still expelled from church. My nephew Dan S. Miller who called the law on his parents remains expelled from church. Yet you have Norman, Noah, John, Harvey, Sam who have only been expelled for a short period of time for serious sex offenses. I'll let you be the judge whether my Amish culture is a cult or a religion.
At times I have spoke rather harshly about the three most conservative sectors of the Amish culture. The reason I have done so is because I have lived that lifestyle. I am fully qualified to have made the statements I have. The truth is not always pleasant and not always what the public would like to hear. I have made a great difference between the different Amish sectors. To my knowledge the less conservative Amish are a more respectful group, less harsh discipline and have a better education. I didn't live that less conservative lifestyle, so it’s not for me to say. They might very well be just as abusive but not to my knowledge.
An Englishmen that lives near an Amish community who claims to be an expert on my culture is usually motivated by a couple different reasons. Number one, my culture will make you feel important by sitting down and listening to what you have to say, especially if you are a public official. You might even receive homemade oak furniture at a discount or in some cases for free. You will most definitely receive a homemade loaf of bread, cookies and vegetables out of the garden at no cost. The second reason is that you are someone who makes money off my Amish culture. Revenue from tourism, in Amish areas runs into the millions. My Amish culture is always willing to give to any outsiders, if they think it will benefit them. As an Englishmen you can ask an Amish person about their culture and they will paint a peaceful picture. They are not allowed to discuss to an outsider what goes on behind closed doors.
For making Amish Deception public I stand to gain absolutely nothing, financially or otherwise. However, I am subject to harsh ridicule from the Englishmen who stands to gain financially from my culture. But most important my Amish culture will look at this as the unforgivable sin. What little connections I had left to my culture I will lose. That will most definitely affect me emotionally. But what is most important to me is that you the Englishmen take Amish Deception seriously. This Autobiography has been created to educate the American Public about my Amish Culture and to further educate the public that not all Amish are alike. This book proves that no culture should be above the law, or is it without major problems. I, David Yoder, am very proud of my Amish heritage.
To discipline your children is one thing, but to physically and emotionally abuse them is devastating to any child. There is nothing wrong with having close ties with your local Amish communities. But there is something wrong if you are more concerned about your close ties to your local Amish community than you are about the rights of the innocent Amish children.
I'm considering taking Federal action and would be very interested in hearing form a Law Firm who is very knowledgeable on 42 U.S.C.S. Sec. 1981 that would be willing to challenge these very, very difficult issues.
